Many common chronic health problems, such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes, develop slowly over time. When these conditions are detected early, they can often be prevented, better managed, or treated before they lead to serious complications and significant healthcare costs. Doctors, both general practitioners and specialists, are often the first to notice early warning signs and risk factors and can recommend preventive actions such as lifestyle changes, screening tests, or early treatments.

At the Luxembourg Research Clinic (LRC), research in primary care and prevention is carried out in close cooperation with primary care providers, hospitals, and experts in sports and physical activity to bridge the gap between prevention, early intervention, and advanced clinical care. By studying health in real-world clinical settings, researchers aim to improve prevention strategies, accelerate early intervention and develop personalised treatments, thereby improving patient outcomes.

Cardiovascular disease is the second cause of mortality in Luxembourg and is preventable. In line with the European Safe Hearts plan and in cooperation with the National Plan for Cardio-Neuro-Vascular Disease and other national healthcare stakeholders and research institutions, the LRC pillar on Cardiovascular, Primary Care and Prevention aims to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease by strengthening clinical research, prevention campaigns and primary care.
