University of Luxembourg (UL)
The University of Luxembourg (UL) is the country’s only public university and a key driver of research, education and innovation in Luxembourg. Since 2003 it has developed a strong international profile, combining research excellence with close connections to Luxembourg’s society, economy and public institutions. Its multilingual and interdisciplinary environment supports collaboration across disciplines and borders.
With a strong focus on research and a high proportion of doctoral students, the University combines fundamental and applied research with teaching. Its three core missions are research, higher education, and contributing to the social, cultural and economic development of Luxembourg and the wider world. Medicine and health, digital transformation, and sustainable and societal development are among its key areas of research and development.
The University hosts a number of interdisciplinary research centres, including the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), which combines biology, medicine, computer science and engineering to better understand human health and disease. The LCSB has particular expertise in neurodegenerative diseases, data science and digital health, making it an important contributor to Luxembourg’s biomedical research landscape.
Within the Luxembourg Research Clinic, the University contributes its academic and research expertise, including via the LCSB, to strengthen clinical and translational research in Luxembourg. Its collaboration with the country’s hospitals and research institutions helps connect scientific discovery, clinical expertise and patient needs, supporting the development of a strong national research ecosystem.
