Clinnova-IBD
Using health data to improve personalised care for inflammatory bowel disease
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, is a chronic condition that affects the digestive tract. Because IBD can vary greatly from one person to another, patients may respond differently to treatments and may experience different disease courses over time. The Clinnova-IBD project aims to improve personalised care for people living with IBD. By combining clinical information with biological and molecular data, researchers hope to identify markers that can help predict when a treatment change may be needed, how a patient is likely to respond to different therapies, and how their disease may progress in the future. The project also seeks to improve the monitoring of patient well-being and to better understand the biological mechanisms underlying IBD. In the long term, this research may help healthcare professionals make more informed treatment decisions and support the development of more personalised and effective care strategies for people with IBD.

Who can participate?
Eligible participants
Clinnova-IBD is recruiting adults diagnosed with Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), either Crohn’s disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC) who require a significant change in treatment. Specifically, you may be eligible to participate if you:
- Are 18 years of age or older.
- Have been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), either Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, at least 3 months before joining the study.
- Are experiencing a significant change in your IBD treatment, such as a change in medication, dosage, treatment type, or the addition of a new treatment.
- Are willing and able to attend study visits, complete study assessments, and provide the required data and biological samples.
- Are able to understand the study information and provide written informed consent.
- Patients with an ostomy or short bowel syndrome may also participate if they meet all other eligibility criteria.
Exclusion criteria
You may not be eligible to participate if you:
- Have a condition that would make it difficult to take part in the study procedures or attend study visits, including completing questionnaires.
- Are not fluent in French, English, or German.
- Are currently pregnant.
Not sure about eligibility?
The study team will review each case individually to determine eligibility. If you are unsure whether you are eligible, do not hesitate to contact us.

What will participants do?
01.
Provide informed consent
This must be completed before any study procedures are carried out.
02.
Attend study visits
These will take place at the start of the study (baseline), after 3 months, and after 12 months during the first year of participation.
03.
Provide health information during study visits
This includes information about your medical history, lifestyle, physical examinations, and laboratory results.
04.
Complete questionnaires and voice recordings
These will be completed through the Colive web application at different time points throughout the study to help researchers better understand your health and well-being.
05.
Provide biological samples
- Blood samples (mandatory)
- Stool samples (mandatory)
- Saliva samples (optional)
- Urine samples (optional)
- Hair samples (optional)
06.
Allow the use of tissue samples and imaging data
This applies to data and samples collected as part of your routine medical care, such as endoscopic biopsies or medical imaging, if available.
07.
Use a smartwatch
If you choose to receive one, to collect information about your physical activity and sleep quality throughout the study.
08.
Attend an additional study visit if needed
This may be required in the event of a disease flare or a significant change in your treatment.
08.
Take part in long-term follow-up
This may continue for up to 5 years and includes yearly collection of medical information, questionnaires and voice recordings every 6 months, and ongoing smartwatch data collection where applicable.
