Finding new ways to monitor and improve treatments for peanut and tree nut allergies

Food allergies can have a significant impact on daily life and may increase the risk of severe allergic reactions. Oral immunotherapy (OIT) is an emerging treatment that aims to increase tolerance to specific foods by gradually introducing small, increasing amounts of the allergen over time. This approach may help improve safety and quality of life for people living with food allergies. However, there is still the need to develop reliable biomarkers that could help predict how well a person responds to treatment. The goal of this research project is to better understand how the immune system changes during oral immunotherapy so as to identify immune markers in blood samples to measure, monitor and predict the progression and efficacy of oral immunotherapy, ultimately supporting more personalised approaches to allergy care.
